My Artwork: I make land, sea and skyscapes as well as still life paintings in oils. My exhibition for this year’s Open Studios will incorporate a wide range of these works including: recent paintings of the bluebells in Radley Little Wood, current seascapes and an emerging body of work entitled Still Life as Memoir.
Artworks For Sale: There is an opportunity to buy both originals and high quality limited edition Giclée Prints as well as to browse my sketchbooks. I will be providing tea, coffee and cake and visitors are welcome to enjoy the garden on fine days too, of course!
I very much look forward to welcoming you to share my practice. Bring your friends!
Artist Statement: I enjoy observing the varying effects of weather and the changing light in the landscape, distilling fleeting moments in the sky and water onto canvas as well as studying the sculptural features of landforms and familiar household objects. I aim to depict both the tremendous stillness and the infinite movement ever-present in our surroundings, thus capturing the special atmosphere of any place or object.
Technique: I usually paint on a square canvas, using brush and palette knife in a largely realist style with some abstract mark-making. Working from observation I make sketches outdoors in pen and ink and I also take multiple photographs for use back in the studio.
